San Diego Convention Center Expansion

San Diego, CA
City of San Diego
Design - Build
2001

One of the largest, most complex waterfront construction projects ever completed in San Diego County using the Design/Build delivery method, the 948,000 SF expansion of San Diego Convention Center is a local icon. Many design elements are consistent with the original center, which was a fundamental goal of the project. The expansion is joined to the existing structure by a wide landscaped public promenade elevated across the width of the building that joins Harbor Drive to San Diego Bay and the South Embarcadero portion of the waterfront. The project required Tucker Sadler to conduct investigative research and entitlement processing with many governmental agencies including Army Corps of Engineers, U.S. Fish and Game, Metropolitan Waste Water District, Coastal Commission, other local regulatory agencies and local community groups.
