Hilton Hotels Corporation retained Tucker Sadler Architects for the 287,000 SF interior and exterior renovation of the San Diego Hilton Beach and Tennis Resort located on Mission Bay. The existing Polynesian style buildings were transformed into an exclusive Mediterranean Villa design theme. The major hotel renovation focused on the outdoor pool area. Interlocking pavers replaced the existing indoor - outdoor carpeting, and a water feature was added. Fences, gates, and ramps were upgraded to meet current ADA/Title 24 and building codes. The famous pool side grill “Banana Cabana” was completely rebuilt, along with outdoor restrooms, guest laundry facilities, Kids Club structures and the indoor/outdoor restaurants. The breakfast and lunch dining room was completely renovated, replacing the existing ceiling with a recessed, painted wood barreled logs. A buffet bar was added for breakfast and lunch with an optional accordion partition to close off if needed. The entire transformation created a tropical villa atmosphere with luscious landscaping and dramatic lighting to enhance the relaxing experience.
