The renovation of the 450,000 SF hotel in downtown San Diego involved blending the function of modern amenities into this historic landmark. Air conditioning, fire protection, and adequate plumbing were added to make the U.S. Grant into a turn of the century hotel, while restoring the hotel to the original 1910 design. Tucker Sadler Architects overcame many obstacles to create ambience in the renovation of the U.S. Grant. The prevalent idea was to return the hotel to its focal point in the city; a place of elegance and distinction that will leave positive lasting impressions.
